My iPod screen cracked, what are my options to fix it?

I have a 4th generation iPod that I got in December of 2010. I dropped it last night and my screen cracked, quite badly. But everything still works, like music, my apps and movies. So what are my options to get this fixed. I saw online where 3rd party websites do it for you, but I am very weary of those and I looked on apple and I know it is not in the warranty because it is 'misuse' so is there a way apple will fix for a price, if so how do I go about doing that. I also saw where you can do it yourself, but I don't want to cause any more damage to it, so how can I fix this?
